Plain Weave |
Plain Weave Square Mesh (P)
Plain Square Mesh, the most common weave, is woven in a simple over-one, under-one
pattern. The number of warp and weft wires per inch is the same. The wire
diameter of both warp and weft wires is the same. Mesh woven in this pattern has the
maximum stability. Square plain meshes are available with apertures from .0015"
(0.38 mm) to one inch (25.4 mm) or larger. |

Plain Dutch Weave |
Plain Dutch Weave (PD)
Plain Dutch weave is woven in a plain weave pattern. It has fewer but thicker
warp wires and more but thinner weft wires spaced (beaten) closely together. The
warp wires lie uncrimped inside the mesh below the surface which is only formed by the
crimped weft wires. This creates narrow, twisting passageways through the cloth that
appear triangular when viewed diagonally. Used mainly for filtration, Plain Dutch
weaves have a high particle retention, a high tensile strength and many small apertures
per suface area. Apertures in this mesh vary from 50 micron to 300 micron. |

Twill Weave |
Square Meshes, Twill Weave
(Tw)
Twill Square Mesh, having the same wire diameter and number in both warp and weft,
has each wire passing over two and under two or more warp wires, producing square
openings. Twill weae can be made from larger diameter wires than would be possible
in Plain Square weave to obtain greater strength and smoother surface. Compared to
Plain weave, the open area is smaller and there is a tendency of diagonal drag. |

Twill Dutch Weave |
Twill Dutch (TD)
Twill Dutch is of a similar construction to Plain Dutch, i.e. fewer thick wires,
many thin weft wires, except the weave pattern is twill which allows the maximum number of
weft wires. Dutch Twill is a surface filtration media, having a high tensile
strength in weft direction and allowing the smallest openings. Apertures in this
mesh vary from 100 micron to as little as 5 micron. |
