Vulcanized Cellulose
Vulcanized fibre is a chemically pure cellulose material that contains no resins or bonding agents. It provides an unusual combination of electrical and mechanical properties that recommend its use in a wide variety of industrial applications. Fibre has excellent arc resistance...resists wear and abrasion...does not splinter and is non-crystallizing under severe vibration...it is insoluble in ordinary solvents and resistant to oils and greases. Temperatures to 220°F. It is manufactured in several grades suitable for punched parts as follows.
NEMA GRADE-ELECTRICAL Insulation
Mil-695 Type F, ASTM D-710 Electrical.
This grade is primarily intended for electrical applications and others involving bending or forming operations. Gray in color and also called fish paper.
NEMA GRADE-COMMERClAL Mil F-1148 CH, ASTM D-710 Commercial
A general purpose electrical and mechanical grade with a broad application base. Available gray, black and red.
NEMA GRADE-BONE Mil-F-1148 BH, ASTM D-710 Bone, FED H-H-P-91
Hardest, densest grade made. Best machining properties and very resistant to wear and abrasion.
Phenolic
Phenolic laminate sheets are composed of base materials combined with various resins, permanently cured with high temperature and pressure. Varying the base materials and resins allows production of laminates with selective electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics. Temperatures to 225 F.
This guide is to help you select the grade that offers the best performance and economy for your requirement.
